In the isolated and remote villages of India, many have to walk miles before they can be treated for illness. Seeing this great need all over the country, IGL has responded by beginning to provide medical facilities in some villages.
Screening camps for cancer and other diseases are conducted frequently in IGL’s rural clinics. Also, part of medical missions, teams from the U.S. consisting of doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other medical personnel participate in these rural clinics.
Leprosy Care:
Leprosy is still one of the biggest social problems in India. More than five million people are now victims of this deadly disease. When people become afflicted with leprosy, their families simply abandon them. They are then forced to live on the streets and beg for food. It is heart-breaking to see these lost and lonely people with no one to care for or help them. At the sight of them most people turn and walk away.
India Gospel League currently helps more than 500 of Salem's desperately poor leprosy victims by providing them food, clothing, education, medical rehabilitation and housing.
